Virat Kohli, Amit Mishra, a seasoned bowler from India, has talked extensively about his interactions with Rohit Sharma and Kohli and how they are quite different from one another.
After taking over as captain, veteran spinner Amit Mishra noticed a shift in Virat Kohli’s conduct and made some shocking allegations about his colleague from India. In contrasting Kohli and Rohit Sharma, Mishra—who briefly captained the Indian team between 2015 and 2017—emphasized how one evolved with the times, while the other stayed constant from the start.
Less than a year separated the beginning of Kohli and Rohit’s Indian careers, and over the following fifteen years, they would establish themselves as the core of the Indian batting lineup. After enduring several heartbreaks, they shared the ultimate victory—a T20 World Cup—and even announced their retirement from T20 Internationals on the same day. Despite their many similarities in terms of fan bases and hitting prowess, Mishra’s relationship with the two Indian cricket legends is very different.
Regarding his relationship with Rohit, Mishra stated that he and the current captain of India have a very lighthearted and cordial relationship that dates back to the latter’s early cricket career, but he does not anticipate the same from Kohli. Mishra further disclosed that Kohli has less friends in the Indian squad now that he has changed.
When asked if players are respected equally to MS Dhoni or Sachin Tendulkar, Mishra responded, “Not everyone to be very honest,” on his program with YouTuber Shubhankar Mishra. “I’m not going to lie. I still hold a great deal of respect for him as a cricketer, but our equation has changed over time. Why is Virat’s friend count lower? The natures of Rohit and him are dissimilar. The nicest thing about Rohit, I’ll tell you. He is the same person I met the first day I met him and the day I met him again. Will you therefore be more able to relate to him or to someone who adapts to the circumstances?
“I haven’t played for the Indian team in a long time. Even now, Rohit constantly makes jokes with me when we meet, whether it’s at the IPL or another event. I don’t have to worry about what he might think. We make each other laugh. Even though he is at the top, our relationship has remained intact. He has five IPL titles, a World Cup victory, and the captaincy.”
Virat kohli and I nearly fell silent: Mishra
Mishra, who made his debut for India in 2008, participated in 22 Test matches, nine of which—including his final one—were played under Virat Kohli. Mishra got 33 wickets in this period, but the leg-spinner lamented that over time, their rapport with Kohli deteriorated to the point where they were virtually silent. The two-time Indian World Cup champion Yuvraj Singh had previously mentioned how he was friends with the younger Kohli, nicknamed “Cheeku,” but that friendship was not able to last as long as it did with Virat Kohli the celebrity. Similar to what was said by others, Mishra too highlighted the ‘big contrast’ between Kohli’s mindset prior to captaincy and his subsequent success.
“I’ve seen a lot of change in Virat Kohli . Our conversation had nearly come to an end. They believe that people are contacting them for a reason when they become well-known and powerful. I never belonged to the group. I’ve known Cheeku since he was fourteen years old, back when he was addicted to pizza and used to eat samosas every night. However, there’s a big difference between the skipper Virat Kohli and the Cheeku I knew. He is always quite respectful when we meet, but it’s clear that things have changed “Mishra continued.
