Dunki OTT release: On December 21, 2023, Rajkumar Hirani’s film Dunki, starring Shah Rukh Khan, opened in theaters. According to a report from Sacnilk.com, the movie did well at the box office, earning ₹454 crore worldwide. As per the latest rumors, JioCinema was scheduled to be the digital debut platform for Dunki; nevertheless, the film is currently available for streaming on another OTT platform.
Dunki OTT premieres on Netflix
Netflix India released a poster for the Shah Rukh Khan movie on Instagram on Wednesday, announcing Dunki’s over-the-top premiere on the platform. The caption stated, “Start packing! After a worldwide Dunki, @iamsrk is going back home. Dunki is now available to view on Netflix! Netflix’s Dunki makes its OTT premiere on Valentine’s Day in 2024.

Red Chillies Entertainment, Jio Studios, and Rajkumar Hirani Films produced the film, which was directed and edited by Rajkumar Hirani from a script he co-wrote with Abhijat Joshi and Kanika Dhillon. Despite having a production and marketing budget of ₹120 crore (US$15 million), the movie brought in nearly ₹470 crore (US$59 million) worldwide, making it the seventh highest-grossing Indian film of 2023 and the sixth highest-grossing Hindi film of 2023. The movie garnered nine nominations for the 69th Filmfare Awards, where Kaushal took home the Best Supporting Actor trophy.
After Pathaan and Jawan’s popularity in 2023, Shah Rukh’s final release of the year was Dunki. In a recent interview with ANI, Rajkumar Hirani discussed his collaboration with Shah Rukh, saying, “You always want to make a movie with a meaningful and good story.” Shah Rukh was immediately drawn to the narrative. As an actor looking to branch out from doing action movies, he was excited and deeply invested in the project. After working together for a while, we had a great time (we had fun), and I’m glad I was able to satisfy my long-held desire to collaborate with him.

The 13th-highest advance booking for a Hindi movie ever was achieved by Dunki. It made ₹28 crore (US$3.5 million) in India on its first day of sales and ₹58 crore (US$7.3 million) globally. On its second and third days, it brought in ₹20 crore (US$2.5 million) and ₹24.5 crore (US$3.1 million) in net domestic revenues, respectively. Day 4 saw the movie earn ₹32 crore (US$4.0 million) in India, breaking the ₹100 crore domestic box office barrier and the ₹200 crore global mark.
The film reached the 300 crore mark on day 7, and Shah Rukh Khan’s total collection of ₹2500 crore in 2023 set a record for any actor in Indian movie history. On the thirteenth day, Dunki brought in ₹3.85 crore (US$480,000) net in India, surpassing the ₹200 crore threshold at home, and garnered ₹400.60 crore (US$50 million) globally.
Dunki-Salaar clash
Critics and viewers gave Dunki varying reviews, and it was compared to Prabhas’s huge hit Salaar: Part 1-Ceasefire. On February 16, the Hindi version of Salaar will be available onDisney+ Hotstar. The movie was filmed in Telugu at first, then it was also released in Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam, and Tamil theaters. The other versions—aside from Hindi—were made available on Netflix last month.
